Prader-Willi Syndrome Seminar - 10th anniversary

A successful Seminar was held to celebrate the 10^th Anniversary of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association.  The Seminar was in honour of the late Birgit Schröder Hadsbjerg, founder of the Association in 1990.

The Seminar commenced with a tribute to Birgit and was followed by an inspiring address delivered by her husband, Gunther Hadsbjerg.  Their son, Jassim was diagnosed with PWS.  Gunther informed the audience of their son’s successful way of living in a self-supporting residential development in Denmark.

The speakers of the day, except for one, were all part of the team of professionals who are involved at the Clinic for persons with PWS.  This Clinic is at the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pretoria and is under the leadership of prof Arnold Christianson.

The following topics were covered:  feedback on the Clinic for persons with PWS,  nutrition,  growth hormone treatment as well as practical aspects of GH administration,  research on people with PWS as well as positive parenting skills.  The Seminar was ended with meaningful group discussions.
